Gourmet food is a whole class of elements from the basic ingredients that are necessary to fully prepare the dishes in a restaurant and which have some upgraded or unusual characteristics. Some ingredients that are considered gourmet are extremely rare, expensive, or cultivated in a very specific way. Some restaurant meals can be considered gourmet due to the chef's skill and artistic presentation of the dish. Consumers can find in delicatessen stores a large variety of gourmet products for sale. These products are called gourmet for many reasons, including the quality or the careful maintenance of the ingredients used.
Other foods are considered gourmet because of their origin. Truffles are an example of a gourmet product. They can not be grown in a controlled environment and should be carefully monitored and collected from wild areas in France and Italy. That is why it is a very expensive ingredient in cooking. Yolk (Krokos) is another gourmet ingredient. Saffron is made of the crocus flower and is very difficult to harvest and process. It is one of the most expensive spices in the world.
Some foods
are considered gourmet because of the way they are grown. For example,
"kobe" beef comes from a specific region of Japan, where cows
"enjoy" a kind of massage every day and are fed a special diet that
includes beer. Many other gourmet products are grown with alternative farming
systems, like caviar. Last decades sturgeon is cultivating in special fish
farms in order to protect origin. Caviar’s quality remains the same and this
process made many companies sell high quality caviar online.
Gourmet is
sometimes over priced, but, it is definitely worth to give a try and taste a
luxury delicacy!
