Crete Top 5 Villages

For anyone who visits the island of Crete for the first time, we understand that he is confused about which places to visit during his stay. Crete is a huge island with many coastal, lowland and mountainous areads and we chose 5 picturesque villages of Crete that are worth someone to visit.  We start from western Crete, 25 km from the city of Chania, where you meet a setting reminiscent of the enchanting Tuscany. This is the village Vamos which is the ideal place to get a taste of the crecian life and countryside.

This is one of the most beautiful traditional settlements in Chania with buildings of the 18th and 19th century, most of which have been converted into very beautiful guest houses. We continue in the south of Crete with the village of Loutro, which is 70 km from the city of Chania. To reach this picturesque fishing village you have to take a boat from the town of Sfakia. The village has two beaches, Glyka Nera and Marmara, while a a little walking distance you can enjoy your swim in the cold waters of the Libyan Sea.

Our list could not miss the most famous settlement of Crete, Archanes, the village is only 15 km from the city of Heraklion and just 7 km from the Minoan palace of Knossos. Yards and buildings have made this traditional settlement win a European Union competition for its residential development.

We continue our tour with the prefecture of Heraklion and reach the small village of Koutouloufari which is located less than a kilometer away from the Hersonissos. hersonissos hotels crete Koutouloufari has narrow cobbled streets, old Cretan stone houses and beautiful tourist shops. Place offers many options for entertainment, mainly gastronomic.

Finally, Anogia could not be missing from the list, the most famous village of Rethymno. And of course he will taste the endless exceptional Cretan delicacies. Do not forget to visit the Ideon Cave, the place that is where according to mythology the god Zeus grew up. 

The distances may be long but it is worth every bit and every kilometer you will travel in island of Crete!
